Sandhill Crane Migration Celebration

  • Oak Savanna Learning Center 16797 289th Avenue Northwest Zimmerman, Minnesota, 55398 United States (map)

This event is co-sponsored by the Feminist Bird Club Twin Cities Metro.

Each year, tens of thousands of Sandhill Cranes stop by the Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge in Zimmerman, MN, to rest and refuel during their annual migration south. Around twilight, the cranes start landing in farm fields across Central Minnesota to relax before their journey resumes in the morning. The Land of Lakes Bird Alliance and the Feminist Bird Club - Twin Cities Metro are excited to offer a special, partnered event to welcome bird enthusiasts across the metro to a group viewing of the cranes! A spectacle to behold - it is truly one of the most beautiful events in nature that our state experiences each year.

We understand that Zimmerman, MN, is a trek from the Twin Cities! That's why Land of Lakes and FBC - TCM are offering carpooling options. We will coordinate meeting spots throughout the Twin Cities Metro for those interested in carpooling. We will also offer additional carpooling after we arrive at the Oak Savanna Learning Center. The viewing place for the cranes has very few parking spots, so we will have to limit the number of cars we take into the refuge. If you are uncomfortable sharing a ride (even at the refuge), that's totally fine - just let our leadership know when we start to organize carpooling options at the park. Please fill out an RSVP form to indicate your location in the Twin Cities if you are interested in ridesharing from the metro! We are excited to celebrate this breathtaking migration with you!
