Heron Rookery

  • Marshall Terrace Park 2740 Marshall Street Northeast Minneapolis, MN 55418 (map)

On this outing, we will view heron nests, learn about their behavior, diet, and chicks. Bring tripod, binoculars, and cameras if you have them. Binoculars are available for those who need them. All are welcome, no experience required.

This outing is geared toward people who are curious about herons and their wee ones, those who enjoy water birds, and is especially great for people who are still learning how to spot birds; you will have great views of herons, egrets, and waterfowl who are slower and more still than flitting warblers and songbirds.

Please dress for the weather. We will not cancel for drizzle or cold, but we will cancel for heavy rain or dangerous weather conditions.

Birdability/accessibility description:The route from the parking lot to the viewing platform overlooking the river and rookery is short and flat over pavement and grass. A longer, fully-paved alternate route is possible. The viewing platform has several steps. However, the rookery is visible from spots adjacent to the platform. Disability parking spaces are available.

If you have questions or concerns about accessibility or need to borrow binocuars, please contact one of the outing leaders, Karen Weidner (kare5620@gmail.com )

Registration for this free event is required and limited to 15 people: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/heron-rookery-tickets-879129649447?aff=oddtdtcreator
