Birds of Ojibwe Legend - Hope Flanagan

Zoom Only Option: This will not be recorded

** Co-Sponsored with Urban Bird Collective **

Hope Flanagan is an elder who has taught and worked in the Twin Cities Native Community since the late 1970’s. She is a long-time Community Outreach and Culture teacher at Dream of Wild Health. Prior to that, Hope taught in an Ojibwe Immersion classroom for ten years and was also a Storyteller for Minneapolis Public Schools. She teaches about plants and wild plant gathering, and is also an Urban Bird Collective walk leader.

When she was a teenager, Hope was told that “When we ignore our teachers (our gifts) they leave us.” She was referring to things such as: our elders, the clean water, the plants and of course, the birds. We are in danger of this now.

Hope will offer traditional teachings about birds that she has received in her lifetime.  We all need to work together to thank and recognize our “Niiji-bimaadiziig” (fellow living beings). It’s time to honor the beauty of this Earth and keep it close to us.

Join us to hear stories about the Bald Eagle, Common Loon, Pileated Woodpecker, Goldfinch, Black-capped Chickadees, Cardinals and more will be told by Hope.
