Migration Partners Celebrates World Migratory Bird Day
In recognition of World Migratory Bird Day on May 8, Audubon Chapter Minnapolis’ Honduras-based Migration Partner, AvesHonduras completed a great workshop with a youth group, Fundacion AHLE, in the Lake Yojoa Basin region of Honduras.
AvesHonduras birding club members and bird guides Didey Urquia, Denilson Ordoñez and Samael Turcios hosted a group of 20 young birders at Eco Lodge Paradise for an overnight stay which included educational activities and birding field trips. They conducted a workshop highlighting the importance of bird habitat conservation followed by group activities designed to develop leadership and bird identification skills.
On May 8th, World Migratory Bird Day, the group went on birding hike in the lush habitats of Eco Lodge Paradise.
The birding club identified 44 bird species and logged their observations into eBird to contribute to community science bird monitoring efforts.
The event was possible thanks to partnerships between AvesHonduras, Fundacion AHLE, and Audubon Chapter of Minneapolis. These collaborations complement the objective of our Migration Partners program of promoting bird conservation and protection of habitats in the wintering grounds of hundreds of bird species.
